In 2018, Cobb Systems Group, LLC (CSG – cobbsystemsgroup.com) began customized software development of a new online client check-in, referral, and tracking system for the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC – afac.org). The system facilitates workflows and collaboration among social workers, AFAC administrators, AFAC volunteers at food distribution facilities, and the families who are AFAC’s clients. AFAC is the only organization in Arlington, VA that is solely devoted to providing Arlington residents with dignified access to nutritious supplemental groceries — directly and free of charge. AFAC supplies 18 grocery distribution centers at which its clients can select food suitable for their families. One-third of the people served are children. The new system is central to AFAC’s operations. It went live in September 2019, just a few months before COVID-19 became a pandemic in the United States and caused food insecurity to grow. The platform’s reception by AFAC and the ecosystem it supports has been tremendous.

“The system is working well beyond expectations and is adding great value to fulfilling our mission. Thanks for all your help and for the great work.” –Charles Meng, CEO AFAC

The business intelligence that the new system provides AFAC is especially critical to AFAC’s operations.

“The system has been essential as we have moved forward in providing real-time numbers for our needs here at AFAC, and for all the various departments and agencies of the Arlington County government who either want or need to know what is going on with those in need in our community.“ – Charles Meng, CEO AFAC

AFAC just engaged CSG to build the next phase of the system … and we are delighted!

“Food insecurity was already alarmingly high (415,000 individuals) in the DC Metro Region prior to the full economic impact of COVID-19. Cobb Systems Group is very proud to support the incredible work that AFAC does for our community. We have built many applications for many clients over the years, but the timing and effectiveness of this now ongoing endeavor are especially gratifying.” –Christine Juettner, COO, Cobb Systems Group

Please support organizations like AFAC in your community. We will keep you posted on the results of phase 2 and the great work that AFAC continues to do!
